Nothing matches the authentic atmosphere and deep, radiant warmth of a real log burner. At Glowing Flames, we’ve curated a collection of wood burning stoves that combine the timeless appeal of a traditional hearth with cutting-edge combustion technology. Whether you are renovatng a period property or adding a focal point to a contemporary apartment, our stoves provide a reliable, carbon-neutral heating solution for the British climate.
Unlike old-fashioned open fires, modern stoves are engineered to trap and circulate heat, ensuring that energy isn't wasted up the chimney. This makes them a highly efficient way to manage your home’s temperature while adding a layer of sophisticated style to your interior.
To achieve the best results, fuel quality is paramount. You should only use logs with a moisture content below 20%. Burning dry, seasoned wood prevents the build-up of creosote in your flue and ensures your stove glass stays clear, giving you an uninterrupted view of the dancing flames.
Selecting the right size (kW output) is the most important part of your purchase. A stove that is too large for the room will result in "over-firing" and discomfort, while one that is too small won't reach the required temperature.
Installing a wood burner is a significant home improvement that must meet UK Building Regulations. To ensure your safety:
Are wood burning stoves still legal in the UK?
Yes, absolutely. While regulations have changed, modern Ecodesign and DEFRA Exempt stoves are specifically designed to meet current environmental standards. They are significantly cleaner than open fires and older stove models.
Do I need a chimney for a wood burning stove?
While you don't necessarily need an existing brick chimney, you do need a flue system. If your home doesn't have a chimney, we can provide Twin Wall Flue systems that can be installed through a wall or the roof.
What is the difference between a wood burner and a multi-fuel stove?
A dedicated wood burner is designed for logs to sit on a bed of ash. A multi-fuel stove features a "riddling grate," which allows air to circulate from beneath, making it suitable for burning both wood and smokeless coal.
Can I put a TV above my wood burner?
It is possible, but you must protect the TV from rising heat. This usually involves a deep, non-combustible mantel or a specific recess to deflect heat away from the screen.
How do I clean the glass on my stove?
Most modern stoves feature an Airwash System that uses airflow to keep the glass clear. If it does get sooty, simply use a damp cloth dipped in cold wood ash to gently buff it clean once the stove is cold.
