About Firepits UK
Firepits UK began in 2008, when Tim made a steel fire pit for a teenage party; friends wanted their own, and the business grew from there. Its products are handmade at its workshop in rural Wales by local craftsmen, from high-grade British steel, mostly 3mm thick. The steel is left uncoated apart from a light coat of oil, so it weathers to a rusty patina, which Firepits UK describes as a natural part of ageing; it says its products are designed to last more than ten years outdoors. Firepits UK has exhibited at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the RHS Malvern Spring Festival and Badminton Horse Trials.

The Firepits UK sizing guide
Firepits UK rates its round bowls by how many people they seat: 50cm for up to 4, 60cm for 6, 70cm for 8, 80cm for 10, 90cm for 12 and 120cm for 20. It suggests charcoal for pits of 60cm or less and seasoned logs for larger ones.
How to choose
- Warmth or cooking? For warmth, a bowl such as the Celeste or Saturn. To cook as well, a pit with swing arm racks (Plain Jane, BBQ King, Box D) or a plancha ring (Sizzler, Plancha Fire Pit).
- Height. Low for loungers (Celeste, Portobello), raised for dining chairs (Ring of Logs, Wine Glass), standing height for cooks (Belly Tall, Sizzler, Plancha Fire Pit).
- Wind. Deep bowls such as the Solex and Belly shelter the fire.
- Lid. A flat table top lid for round pits from 50cm to 120cm keeps rain out and snuffs the fire (there is no lid for the Legs Eleven).
Living with bare steel
Expect the steel to turn a warm rusty brown within weeks outdoors; Firepits UK says this does not affect use or life. Use a lid, empty ash once cold, season racks before first use (heat, wash, dry and oil; Firepits UK advises against olive oil) and stand pits on gravel, brick or paving rather than grass, which may scorch.
