Buying guide
A pizza oven on a trolley is the simplest way to own a serious wood-fired or dual fuel oven: no base to build, no outdoor kitchen required. Wheel it into position, light it and cook. This page explains the trolley models, their sizes and how to site one.
Why choose a trolley oven?
- No building work. The oven arrives with its own stand, so you do not need a masonry base or worktop.
- Flexible. Position it where it suits, and move it under cover for winter.
- Working space. Fontana trolleys have a working shelf and a utensil hook for the peel and brush.
- Same oven. The ovens are the same as Fontana's countertop versions, with a refractory chamotte floor and ceramic-fibre insulation.
Oven and trolley sizes
Fontana publishes the oven body and trolley separately; it does not give an overall height or weight for the two together.
| Model | Pizzas | Oven body | Trolley (D x W x H) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Margherita (wood or dual fuel) | 2 | 780 x 855mm, 100kg | 78 x 78 x 88cm, 20kg |
| Mangiafuoco (wood or dual fuel) | 4 | 980 x 855mm, 135kg wood / 120kg dual fuel | 78 x 98 x 88cm, 21kg |
| Marinara (wood) | 5 | 980 x 1055mm, 150kg | 98 x 98 x 88cm, 25kg |

Where to put it
- Firm and level. Paving or a slab, not soft lawn or loose gravel. These are heavy: a Marinara oven alone weighs 150kg.
- Clear space. Keep it away from fences, sheds, overhanging branches and the house, with open sky above the chimney.
- Room to work. Leave space in front for the peel and somewhere to put pizzas down.
- Move it cold. Only move the oven when it is completely cool, on level ground, with someone to help.
Wood or dual fuel?
Wood-fired versions burn dry hardwood split small. Dual fuel Margherita and Mangiafuoco ovens run on bottled LPG with the hose and regulator supplied, plus a conversion kit for wood; Fontana says gas and wood must never be used at the same time. Keep the gas cylinder outdoors, upright and away from the heat. Compare the two in our guide to wood or gas pizza ovens.
Trolley or countertop: how to decide
- Choose a trolley if you want to start cooking without any building work, might move the oven around the garden or under cover, or rent your home.
- Choose a countertop oven if you are building an outdoor kitchen, already have a strong non-combustible worktop or masonry base, or want the oven at a fixed working height beside a BBQ. See countertop pizza ovens.
Moving and storing a trolley oven
A trolley oven can be moved, but it is heavy: the Marinara oven alone is 150kg before the 25kg trolley. Only move it when it is completely cold, on firm, level ground, with someone to help, and never with a fire or gas cylinder in place. For winter, a sheltered spot under a roof overhang or in an open-fronted shelter, with the cover on, keeps it in the best condition. Never store or use it in a closed garage while it is warm.
The Pizza & Cucina
The Fontana Pizza & Cucina is a different idea: a wood or charcoal outdoor cooking unit on a wheeled trolley that combines a pizza oven, barbecue, smoker, plancha and wok, with a 110 x 45cm cooking surface. It bakes one pizza at a time.
Covers for trolley ovens
Trolley versions take Fontana's full-length covers, which reach over the trolley: SAF03 for the Margherita, SAF04 for the Mangiafuoco, SAF09 for the Marinara and SAF08 for the Pizza & Cucina. They are heavy-duty PVC with a black polyester outer layer, a water-repellent treatment and integrated straps.
Common questions
Do Fontana trolley ovens need assembling?
The oven sits on its trolley. Check the listing and manual for what needs fitting on delivery, and have help to lift the oven into place.
How big is the Fontana Marinara trolley?
Fontana lists it at 98 x 98 x 88cm (D x W x H) and 25kg. The oven body is 980 x 1055mm and weighs 150kg.
Can I leave a trolley oven outside?
Yes, under a fitted cover once it is cold. Moving it under shelter for winter helps it last longer.
Which trolley oven cooks the most pizzas?
The Fontana Marinara, five at a time on an 80 x 80cm floor.
Are trolley ovens available as dual fuel?
Yes, the Margherita and Mangiafuoco come in dual fuel versions that run on LPG or wood.
Can I use a trolley oven on decking?
Use firm, level, non-combustible ground such as paving. A wood-fired oven drops embers and gets very hot.
What does the trolley include?
Fontana trolleys have wheels, a working shelf and a utensil hook.
Which cover fits a trolley oven?
Fontana full covers: SAF03 for the Margherita, SAF04 for the Mangiafuoco and SAF09 for the Marinara.
Building an outdoor kitchen instead?
The same Fontana ovens come as countertop versions to sit on a worktop or masonry base.
