Buying guide

Sureflame fires are a simple way to add a fire to a wall: hang the bracket, hang the fire, plug it in. Four sizes and finishes cover a bedroom alcove to a living room feature wall.

The WM-9331, 9334 and 9505 have an LED flame over a log fuel bed; the WM-9332 has a 3D LED flame. All four come with a remote control with a 7-day timer, and the flame runs with or without the heat. Sureflame fires come with a 1 year warranty.

Choosing a Sureflame fire

  • Bedroom, alcove or chimney breast: the compact 660mm WM-9334.
  • Living room wall: the 1066mm WM-9331 in black glass, or WM-9505 in grey for a softer look on a pale wall.
  • A complete focal point: the WM-9332, which hangs on the wall with its own white surround and downlights, so no mantel is needed.

On 1.8kW to 2kW, a Sureflame fire heats a room of about 25 to 28 cubic metres on its own, using the rule of about 1kW per 14 cubic metres, or tops up the central heating in a larger room. An hour on 1.8kW uses 1.8kWh; multiply by your unit rate for the cost.

Flame and finishes

Black glass, on the WM-9331 and WM-9334, gives a crisp, modern frame that suits most walls and disappears into a dark scheme. Grey glass, on the WM-9505, looks softer on a pale or neutral wall. The WM-9332 is a different look altogether: a pure white frame with grey side panels and dimmable downlights, so it works as a complete fireplace on a plain wall. Behind the glass, the LED flame plays over a log fuel bed, with a 3D LED flame on the WM-9332.

Heat and controls

Every Sureflame fire has two heat settings and a remote with a 7-day timer, so you can set the heat to come on before you get home and run the flame alone the rest of the time. Because there is no combustion, there are no fumes, no flue and no annual service. Keep the heater outlet clear and dust the vents occasionally.

Fitting

No chimney, flue or building work is needed. Fix the bracket to a sound wall with suitable fixings, checking for pipes and cables first, hang the fire at the height you want, and plug it in. Most people put the flame around seated eye level. If you want the cable hidden, an electrician can fit a socket or spur behind the fire. Follow the manual's clearance to a TV or shelf above. See our wall mounted fire guide for more on height and fixings.

Where a Sureflame fire works

Because they need only a wall and a socket, Sureflame fires suit rooms where nothing else will go: a flat with no chimney, a new build living room, a bedroom, a home office or a garden room with power. Many people hang the 1066mm models under a wall mounted TV for a media wall look without the building work, or above a low sideboard. The compact WM-9334 fits a chimney breast or alcove, and the white WM-9332 gives a plain wall a complete fireplace.
