The Carron Albert is a Late Victorian cast iron fire surround with a decorated frieze and triple-column legs. It is 1410mm across the shelf and 1170mm high, frames a 910 x 930mm fire opening, and comes in black or full polish.

Installation and safety

A fire surround is not a heating appliance on its own, but whatever goes inside it must be installed to Building Regulations: a solid fuel fire or stove by a HETAS-registered installer or with Building Control sign-off, and a gas fire by a Gas Safe registered engineer. A carbon monoxide alarm is required in the room for a new solid fuel appliance and, in England, for a new gas fire too. The surround needs a non-combustible hearth, and at 58kg it needs at least two people to position it.

What size is the fire opening?

The opening is 910 x 930mm. Overall the surround is 1170mm high, 1410mm wide at the shelf and 190mm deep.

Which fireplace insert will fit?

Carron's 40 inch cast iron inserts, such as the Royal and London Plate, have a 102 x 102cm back plate, which is larger than this opening, so the surround frames the face of the insert. Ask your installer to confirm the fit and fixing before ordering.

Does it come with a hearth?

No. The hearth is sold separately. Carron makes polished and honed black granite hearths from 92cm to 152cm wide; your installer will confirm the size your fire needs.
