The Carron Regent is a Regency-style cast iron fire surround with straight-line indentations and bullseye corner blocks. At 1290mm wide and 1130mm high it is one of the more compact surrounds in the range, framing a 900 x 930mm opening, in black.

Installation and safety

A fire surround is not a heating appliance on its own, but whatever goes inside it must be installed to Building Regulations: a solid fuel fire or stove by a HETAS-registered installer or with Building Control sign-off, and a gas fire by a Gas Safe registered engineer. A carbon monoxide alarm is required in the room for a new solid fuel appliance and, in England, for a new gas fire too. The surround needs a non-combustible hearth, and at 56kg it needs at least two people to position it.

What size is the fire opening?

The opening is 900 x 930mm. Overall the surround is 1130mm high, 1290mm wide at the shelf and 160mm deep.

Which fireplace insert will fit?

Carron's 40 inch cast iron inserts, such as the Royal and London Plate, have a 102 x 102cm back plate, which is larger than this opening, so the surround frames the face of the insert. Ask your installer to confirm the fit and fixing before ordering.

Does it come with a hearth?

No. The hearth is sold separately. Carron makes polished and honed black granite hearths from 92cm to 152cm wide; your installer will confirm the size your fire needs.
