The Adam Sutton is a 43 inch flat-to-wall fireplace suite with a pure white surround and hearth, 1020 mm high, 1100 mm wide and 300 mm deep. Choose an all pure white back panel or a reversible black and pure white one. It comes with a Colorado electric fire in brushed steel, a Blenheim electric fire in chrome effect (pure white only), or a Colorado bioethanol fire.

About this product

Will it suit your space?

Allow a clear, flat wall at least 1100 mm wide. For the electric fires, have a socket nearby; as a rough guide, allow 1kW of heat for every 14 cubic metres of room volume in an average room, so 2kW suits a room of around 28 cubic metres (about 3.4 x 3.4 m with a 2.4 m ceiling). Older, draughty or high-ceilinged rooms need more, and a heat-loss check by a heating engineer gives the right answer.

The Colorado bioethanol fire needs a minimum room volume of 63 cubic metres (length x width x ceiling height), and the room needs ventilation of at least 0.5 air changes an hour, which trickle vents, door gaps or briefly opening a window usually provide. It is tested as a decorative appliance. The suite arrives unassembled; see the sizes table below for the weight of each option.

Installation and safety

No chimney or recess is needed. Assemble the suite and stand it against a flat wall following the instruction manuals.

Electric fires: plug the fire into a wall socket. The plug comes from the left-hand side of the fire. Never plug it in behind the surround or the fire: the plug must stay accessible after installation so the fire can be disconnected in an emergency.

Bioethanol fire: use only liquid bioethanol of 96% purity or higher, never gel fuel. Fill the burner no higher than its maximum level, wipe up any spill and let the area dry fully before lighting, and keep the room ventilated.

Questions

What is the difference between the colours?

The pure white option has an all pure white back panel; the pure white and black option has a reversible panel, black on one side and pure white on the other.

What is the difference between the fires?

The Colorado electric fire is brushed steel and the Blenheim is chrome effect. Both give 1 to 2kW with manual controls, a thermostat and a coal effect fuel bed. The Colorado bioethanol fire burns liquid bioethanol from a 1.5 litre burner, giving up to 3kW for 3 to 5 hours depending on the opening.

Can I use the flame effect without heat?

Yes, on the electric fires. The first setting on either electric fire is the flame effect only.

Does it need a chimney or recess?

No. The suite fits flat against the wall. The electric fires plug into a wall socket, and the bioethanol fire is a flueless decorative appliance, but the room must meet the minimum volume and ventilation given for the appliance.

What fuel does the bioethanol fire use?

Only liquid bioethanol with a purity of 96% or higher. It is not suitable for gel fuel.

How deep is the shelf?

The shelf is 145 mm deep, and the body of the fireplace is 1005 mm wide.
