At 1370mm wide at the shelf and 1310mm at the floor, measure your chimney breast and existing opening before ordering. Pine costs less than oak, and both can be left unwaxed or waxed to order.

Installation and safety

A wooden surround is not a heating appliance, but whatever you fit inside it must be installed to Building Regulations: solid fuel by a HETAS-registered installer or with Building Control sign-off (with a carbon monoxide alarm in the room), and gas by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Keep timber clear of the heat source as the fire or stove manufacturer specifies.

What size is the fire opening?

The opening is 910 x 910mm (width x height). Overall the surround is 1210mm high, 1370mm wide at the shelf and 150mm deep, and 1310mm wide at the floor.

What is the difference between unwaxed and waxed?

Unwaxed surrounds come in bare wood, ready for you to finish. Waxed surrounds are finished to order by Carron: the wood is stained and clear coated to give a waxed effect in Fiddes Supreme Wax Antique Brown, Jacobean, Light or Rugger Brown.

Can I use it with a stove or open fire?

It can frame a fireplace insert, gas fire or stove, but timber must be kept a safe distance from the heat. Follow the fire or stove manufacturer's clearances to combustible materials and Building Regulations, and ask your installer to check.

Is the hearth included?

No. Hearths and fireplace inserts are sold separately.

Delivery

Free delivery to England and Wales. Unwaxed surrounds usually arrive in 3 to 10 working days. Waxed surrounds are finished to order by Carron and take longer, so ask us for the current lead time before you order. Scotland and Northern Ireland charges are shown at checkout.

Delivery policy

Returns

Waxed finishes are done to your order, so waxed surrounds can't be returned for a change of mind. Unwaxed surrounds can be.

You have 30 days from delivery to change your mind, with no restocking fees. Returns after day 14 must be unused, uninstalled and in the original packaging. If we collect, it costs £90 for a single pallet item or £150 for two-person and multi-pallet deliveries; garden buildings, and collections from Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Highlands and islands, are priced before booking and never cost more than £250. Items made to your specification are excluded, and faulty or damaged goods are collected free.

Return and refund policy

Warranty

The manufacturer's warranty terms apply, which can include registering the product, professional installation and annual servicing. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act are not affected.
