About this product

Will it suit your space?

As a rough guide, allow about 1kW for every 14 cubic metres of room volume, so 5kW suits around 70 cubic metres and 8kW around 112 cubic metres in an average room. Older, draughty or high-ceilinged rooms need more, and a heat-loss check by your installer will confirm whether the 5kW or 8kW is right. Check the sizes table below for the dimensions and weight of each output.

Both need a solid non-combustible hearth at least 12mm thick, extending 300mm in front of the stove, 150mm either side and 50mm behind. To non-combustible walls, Carron asks for 150mm at the sides and rear (50mm behind if the wall is over 200mm thick) and 300mm above. Distances to combustible materials are greater and differ between the 5kW and 8kW, so check them with your installer.

Installation and safety

Have the stove fitted by a HETAS-registered installer or signed off by Building Control, with a carbon monoxide alarm in the same room. Carron asks for a swept chimney at least 5 metres high serving this stove only, and no extractor fan running in the room.

Questions

Can the Revolution burn coal or smokeless fuel?

No. It burns wood only. Carron prohibits solid mineral fuels and recommends seasoned hardwood logs with a moisture content of 20% or less.

Can I use it in a smoke control area?

Yes. It is exempt for use in smoke control areas in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland when burning wood logs below 20% moisture, as long as the factory-fitted air control stop stays in place.

What hearth does it need?

A solid non-combustible hearth at least 12mm thick, extending 300mm in front of the stove, 150mm either side and 50mm behind.

Does it need extra ventilation?

The 8kW does. Because it is rated above 5kW, Carron points to Approved Document J, which calls for a permanent air vent of 550 square millimetres for each kW of rated output above 5kW. Your installer will size it.

How close can it go to the walls?

To non-combustible walls: 150mm at the sides and rear (50mm behind if the wall is over 200mm thick) and 300mm above. To combustibles: on the 5kW, 550mm at the sides, 600mm behind and 600mm above; on the 8kW, 380mm at the sides, 420mm behind and above, or 480mm to a side wall projecting past the stove front.
